Why we walk...Because it is good for you!
Walking naturally engages both the body and spirit. As a bonus, walking burns calories, enhances brain activity, and provides exposure to the sun and Vitamin D. Simply being outside in nature has a relaxing quality, a healing effect on the spirit, and can help reduce stress. Talking side by side can reduce the discomfort and stigma many feel with traditional face to face office therapy. In our experience, it tends to move people further, faster... one step at at time! Other types of exercise therapy may be used with children and adolescents based on client interest and preference (e.g., shooting hoops, throwing a ball, stretching). Clients should generally be able to walk a slow or moderate pace for 30-50 minutes. Clients set the pace according to their goals and abilities. If you are unsure of your stamina but still desire outdoor therapy, modifications may be possible. In case of bad weather clients may opt for an indoor location or an online or phone counseling session. |
